There have been nineteen novels and two picture books published as of Autumn 2006. "Doomwyte", the twentieth novel, is scheduled to be released on October 16, 2008. Redwall is the first book in the Redwall series written by Brian Jacques. The book was first published in the United Kingdom 1986, and was illustrated by Gary Chalk, with the British cover illustration by Pete Lyon and the American cover by Troy Howell. Since then it has been re-published seven times in the United States and the United Kingdom. The winner of both the Lancashire Libraries Children's Book of the Year Award and the Western Australian Young Readers' Award, Redwall has been translated into nine different languages. It was nominated for the Carnegie Medal and was adapted into a graphic novel in 2007. Brian Jacques (born June 15, 1939) is an English author best known for his Redwall series of novels as well as the Tribes of Redwall and Castaways of the Flying Dutchman series. He also completed two collections of short stories entitled The Ribbajack & Other Curious Yarns and Seven Strange and Ghostly Tales. Growing up in the area of the Liverpool docks, Jacques showed a knack for writing at an early age. In 1986, his first novel, Redwall, thus creating the series. His novels have since sold more than twenty million copies worldwide and have been published in twenty-eight languages.
